Betty received a First Class Honours Degree (First Division) in Art and Design, Specialising in Textiles in 1975, followed by the Art Teachers Diploma in 1976. She taught art full time from 1976-1986 and part time, following a career break from 1992-1997. She now works as a substitute art teacher and practicing artist. Betty is interested in the detail and pattern within natural forms, working mainly in watercolour but also in pastel and batik. She is also interested in natural history and animal life and in the human relationship with these. She exhibits annually with the UWS, ASU, USWA and is a full member of the Pastel Society of Ireland. Her first solo exhibition was at the Bay Tree Gallery, Holywood in Jan 2004 and she is a regular exhibitor at the Milltown Gallery group shows. In April 2004 she was elected to the Watercolour Society of Ireland and a painting was selected for the Watercolour Society of Ireland Permanent Collection at the University of Limerick.
