Grahame paints exclusively in watercolour and as well as exhibiting widely, teaches watercolour at a number of workshops throughout Northern Ireland. He is in demand as a watercolour demonstrator for Art Clubs and is a visiting tutor at Art Club and Art Centre workshops. In 2008 he was selected as an invitational artist to the International Art in the Open Festival in Wexford and received a council bursary to the Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Annaghmakerrig, Co. Monaghan.

His subject matter is unimportant as it is the atmosphere, light and colour in the subject that are the important factors and consequently his material includes industrial subjects and interiors as well as more traditional scenes. As a “loose realist” Grahame aims to capture the essentials of a subject as purely and economically as possible. His work is represented in private and public collections including Belfast City Council, Northern Ireland Civil Service Art Collection and Ulster Independent Clinic.
