Born and educated in Belfast, Jim received his early training at the Belfast College of Art and later studied under James Dunn. Those formative years were spent painting watercolours of the soft Irish landscape in the traditional style. During his years in Ontario, between 1954 and 1987, Jim studied under John Martin, Gus Wiseman. Gorden Perrier and Bill Davis. Although he works in a variety of media, he considers himself primarily a watercolourist. His work has been exhibited in Ontario and Ireland.
