Ray is a popular tutor at workshops and day/evening classes throughout the province. He has a strong belief that we ignore nature at our peril. Studio work must be produced by close observation from nature including still life. He considers that the camera can’t cope with space and only an artist can convey the beauty of distance on a flat surface. Composition must take priority over reality - reality has nothing to do with art. Ray has exhibited throughout Northern Ireland and is a regular contributor to the well known artists’ magazines Leisure Painter and The Artist
